Poisonous Pollution


Overview



Using a hands-on enviroscape model of an industrial area, students will discover what hazardous substances are, where they come from and their effects on the environment. Students also learn the problems of hazardous waste contamination and how to clean up and prevent hazardous wastes from adversely affecting the environment.

Demonstrate an understanding of factors that contribute to the health of organ systems and the impact of these factors on personal and public health (O.E.)
Explain how human health is affected by environmental factors (S.E.)

Matter and Energy, Grade 5 (Properties of and Changes in Matter)

Describe the properties of materials that make them useful in everyday products and discuss the environmental impact of this production, use, and disposal of these materials (S.E)
